Helping individuals answer complex questions about living independently
Whether you are an individual with a disability, a family member, an educator, or an agency professional, you have probably come face-to-face with some difficult questions about the future:
► How can individuals dream and plan for the future? Where will they live and work? How will they get around and feel safe?
► What kinds of supports do individuals need to live on their own? What legal and financial steps need to be taken? How can families feel secure that their individuals will be supported if they are not available?
► What opportunities are there for individuals of all ages to prepare for independent living? What tools are available to evaluate and teach independent living skills?
► How can families work together to create new opportunities for their loved ones to live and work in their own community?
Unfortunately, the grim reality for adults with disabilities in the state of Illinois--the lack of community-based services, funding, and innovative solutions--does not make addressing these critical issues any easier.
But Center for Independent Futures believes that it is only through facing the tough questions that individuals, families, educators, and professionals can come together to create positive, workable solutions for each individual, loved one, and student.
We invite you to participate in the solutions we are building.
