Come join CIF and cheer for our Bank of America Chicago Marathon Team on October 9th.  The cheer station will be located at "Charity Block Party," which is just past Mile 14 on the course.  Beginning at 7:30 a.m., look for Team CIF fans on Adams Street between Loomis and Laflin, near Whitney Young High School

The cheering squad will be wearing gold t-shirts and standing under the Center for Independent Futures tent.  We'll have water, coffee and snacks to share with those who come out to cheer on our team.  Family, friends and supporters of Team CIF are all welcome to join us!

In mid-August, CIF staff and participants had an opportunity to volunteer at FEW Spirits, a local craft distillery producing whiskey and gin. Some CIF volunteers filled empty bottles with white whiskey, corked them and applied labels to the front and back of each bottle. (Look for Batch 7 in your local liquor store!) Others prepared boxes for shipping. It was a smooth operation and everyone enjoyed being a part of a small, local, boutique business that makes such a specialized product.

Center for Independent Futures (CIF) participant Elise Hylton knows how to dream…and dream big!  The daughter of CIF co-founder Kay Branz, Elise has been making art "as long as [she] can remember."  During her work with CIF’s Full Life Future Planning process and her Independent Living Skills Tutors, Elise identified a goal to turn her interest in and talent for creating art into a means to provide funds to make one of her biggest Hopes and Dreams possible.

Planning and determination, along with some support from CIF staff, close friend and CIF supporter, Leah Feldman, and the organization Arts of Life, has helped Elise to achieve her goal!  Elise will be the featured artist in a solo exhibit at Spex, 2000 Central Street, Evanston, IL, 60201 (located on the corner of Central Street and Prairie Avenue).  The exhibit opens with a reception on September 8th from 5 – 8 p.m. All CIF community members and the general public are invited to attend the opening and enjoy Elise's artwork. The exhibit will remain up through October 7th.  (Download an event flyer.)
