A Roaring Twenties Success at Spark 2015

May 5, 2015

Center for Independent Futures’ 9th annual Spark was a Roaring Twenties success! Gathering together CIF’s friends and supporters, the night celebrated dreams accomplished and strengthened dreams to come.

The Galleria Marchetti staff were incredible hosts yet again, welcoming guests with passed appetizers and drinks. Performers from Collaboraction, a theatre and arts company dedicated to exploring social issues, set stage for the evening’s Old Hollywood theme. Paparazzi greeted guests and 1920s celebrities mingled with the crowd, including appearances by Charlie Chaplin, Georgia O’Keefe, and Greta Garbo.

After the move into the tent, night got underway. Board of Directors Co-Chairs Jeff Boarini and Ira Mitchell presented the inaugural Jane Doyle AWESOME! Award. This annual recognition honors the dedication and leadership of CIF’s co-founder. Program Director Megan Baer received the award for CIF Staff Member, Auxiliary Board member Sarah Armour received the award for CIF Participant, and Auxiliary Board President Hillarie Joehl received the award for CIF Community Partner. A highlight of the evening was the premier of a short film featuring CIF’s work and the story of participant Jonathan Shuman. Produced by Guy Bauer Productions, this incredible film showed Jonathan’s daily routine and illustrated CIF’s work with individuals, families, and schools. You can watch the video here on CIF’s YouTube channel.

The excitement continued through the live auction, which included five incredible packages. Bidders contested for trips to Mexico, Steamboat Springs, and Las Vegas, a VIP Cubs package, and the biggest hit of the night: a Chicago adventure including two tickets to the sold-out Mumford & Sons show in a lakeside outdoor venue. Finally, Underwater People kicked off the dancing with live music. The floor stayed open for an extra half hour this year, letting attendees celebrate into the night.

CIF would like to thank to everyone whose efforts and dedication made Spark 2015 a success, including our volunteers, attendees, sponsors, and auction items donors. A special thanks goes to our Board of Directors, Auxiliary Board, and Advisory Council, who planned and executed another incredible event.
