Activities Program Gets an Update

September 17,  2015

Center for Independent Futures is excited to announce an update to our activities program! After a successful trial of a quarterly registration system for our heARTwords Writing Workshop, we will begin using this process for all activities. This new registration process provides more advance notice of upcoming events and makes sign-up and payment simpler.

“This system will help to ensure the sustainability of Center for Independent Futures' social activities program,” Activities Director Jeff Morthorst says. “There will be greater consistency and therefore cohesiveness in our events.”

Registration is now open for the Fall Quarter, which includes October, November, and December. While all event fees will remain the same, individuals will pay in advance, eliminating the need to check a balance or pay at events.

By streamlining the activities registration process, we hope to allow more individuals to get involved in new ways. Center for Independent Futures’ activities offer opportunities to gather with friends, make connections, and explore new interests. From social events to cultural outings, our activities are planned with input from the community and designed to support individuals as they build fuller, more satisfying lives.

“We really want to attack the challenge that too many people with disabilities experience, which is social isolation,” Jeff explains. “Through our activities program, we have seen friendships form that become active outside of facilitated events.”

You can download the monthly activities calendar, including activity descriptions and other details, by clicking here. This information will be posted every month on the Center for Independent Futures website, and events will be added to our online calendar.

More information about this update can be found in the letter that was mailed out to our activities community members. You can read that letter by clicking here. To learn more about the new process or how to get involved with activities, contact us at (847) 328-2044.
