Celebrate Our 14 Favorite 2016 Moments

Join Center for Independent Futures in celebrating the accomplishments of another year by checking out our top 14 favorite moments from 2016. We look forward to supporting more full lives and stronger communities in 2017 as we celebrate our fifteenth anniversary year!

1. We published our 2015 Annual Report to share stories of support, including Lindsay’s full life, successful outcomes from our Transition Program support, and profiles of board and staff members. Read the Annual Report here! 

2 Our tenth annual SPARK gala was an evening of glamour under the stars. Staff member Jeff Morthorst, participant Debbie Wall, and community partner Dr. Paul Arntson received the Jane Doyle AWESOME! Award. Check out the photo album on Facebook here. 

3. Guy Bauer Productions created a new film showcasing the way Center for Independent Futures supports the friendship and full lives of three women in our community. Watch the short film here. 

4. Staff member Margaret Tanenberg receives the Outstanding Family Member Advocate Award from the Arc of Illinois. Read more about this honor here. 

5. Staff members traveled to Philadelphia to support a group of families to host a call-to-action meeting. The families gathered at the meeting will work with us to create community-based housing solutions for their loved ones. Check out our process here.

6. The Dream Team soared down Lake Shore Drive in Bike the Drive, raising funds for Center for Independent Futures while enjoying amazing views of the skyline and Lake Michigan. Read about the ride here. 

7. David Suchite used the skills he gained through working with Center for Independent Futures at his high school’s transition program and working at the Center for Independent Futures office to earn a full-time job at an office in downtown Chicago. Read David’s success story here! 

8. Life Tools Campers from Evanston Township High School explored their community and learned new skills. Find out where their week took them.

9. Rob’s Fun Club took trips to Six Flags Great America, Medieval Times, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Learn more about the Fun Club here. 

10. Volunteers from Clerestory Consulting joined Center for Independent Futures community members to paint a mural and beautify the backyard of HUB 930, our newest community space. See photos of the end result.

11. Six runners for Team CIF ran the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, running over 150 miles in one day and raising over $10,000 to support the dreams of individuals with disabilities. Read more about race day here.

13. We celebrated community and local cuisine at our thirteenth annual Something’s Cooking event. Read about the afternoon here.
