CIF Presents Inaugural AWESOME! Award

May 4, 2015

At Spark 2015, Center for Independent Futures presented its first annual Jane Doyle AWESOME! Awards to a CIF staff member, a CIF participant, and a CIF community partner.

The Jane Doyle AWESOME! Award is an annual recognition honoring CIF co-founder Jane Doyle’s leadership and dedication to the organization. CIF’s Board of Directors selected three individuals from nominees in the following categories: staff, participant, and community partner. The winners exemplify innovative leadership, appropriate risk-taking, and personal integrity while focusing on strengthening community connections, embracing a diversity of perspectives, and supporting others to achieve their own successes.

Program Director Megan Baer received the award for CIF Staff Member. Megan, who joined CIF in 2009 as a Life Skills Tutor, stepped into the role of Program Director in January of 2015. She oversees all CIF programming, ensuring that each individual gets the support he or she needs, and has been an amazing asset to CIF in her new role.

Auxiliary Board member Sarah Armour was the CIF Participant selected for the award. A CIF participant since 2010, Sarah joined the Auxiliary Board to continue to make a difference in her community and has also shared her story at her former school. Sarah is a passionate self-advocate who strives to educate her community about disability awareness.

Auxiliary Board President Hillarie Joehl received the award for CIF Community Partner. A palliative care nurse practitioner at Evanston Hospital, Hillarie has three siblings with special needs who have received support from CIF. She serves on the Auxiliary Board to give back to an organization that has supported her family’s dreams and has helped transform the group into an organized, effective board.

Congratulations to Megan, Sarah, and Hillarie on this well-deserved honor. We are grateful for all that they do for the Center for Independent Futures community!
