heARTwords Celebrates a New Year

January 11, 2016

Our heARTwords community celebrated another year of creativity in December at a holiday bash with more than 100 guests, including writers, volunteers, family members, and friends.

“It was a day full of gratefulness and joy,” said Barry Siegel, heARTword's founder, Center for Independent Futures life skills tutor, and poet.

The party started with the usual heARTwords writing workshop session of responding to thought-provoking prompts and sharing work among the group. Later, the community opened its doors to family and friends to include them in the creative process. Guests spent the rest of the party enjoying food and making new social connections.

The heARTwords community has gathered for six years to express thoughts and feelings in a supportive environment. The community has grown from its origins of just a few writers into a diverse group of loyal attendees.
