Support Matthew's Opportunities on #GivingTuesday

November 6, 2015

Whether he’s performing his original anti-bullying rap during a visit to the office or selling every last bottle of wine at Something’s Cooking, Matthew LaChapelle is a charismatic entertainer. His disability is simply one of the many facets of his vibrant personality and rich life. Thanks to his involvement with the Center for Independent Futures Activities Program, his life is also full of opportunities.

“Ever since I joined this place, I feel happy,” Matthew shares.

That day was four years ago. Since then, Matthew has been busy with jobs at both Lou Malnati’s and Walmart and involvement in No Boundaries and Special Olympics. At Center for Independent Futures, Matthew works with Life Skills Tutors toward his goals and participates in social events, the Advisory Council, and HeARTwords writing workshop.

“HeARTwords really has given him a voice to express himself in a variety of different ways,” shares Dana LaChapelle, Matthew’s mother and a member of Center for Independent Futures’ Board of Directors. “It’s an outlet for him and helps him focus.”

Dana says the importance of Center for Independent Futures activities lies in the opportunities they provide for a balanced life and community inclusion, which are opportunities that many individuals lack.

“Through the Center for Independent Futures Activities Program, individuals with disabilities can participate just like anyone else would in a variety of different activities,” Dana explains. “It’s all about having a full life.”

On #GivingTuesday, December 1, you can join Center for Independent Futures to provide these enriching opportunities to even more individuals. The Activities Program depends on your support.
