Support Sanrda's Self-Expression on #GivingTuesday

November 13, 2015

When Sandra Clymo began attending activities through Center for Independent Futures, the program was just getting started. She’s seen the Activities Program expand from weekly activities at a small office to a growing calendar of opportunities for varied interests. Today, the activities community includes more than fifty participants, and Sandra is an active member.

“I come to Volunteer Club because I think it’s important to think about someone other than yourself and to give back to the community,” Sandra says. Shes’s also a regular at Ladies’ Night and Social Hour. And, as an avid Cubs fan, Sandra takes every chance she gets to attend a baseball game at Wrigley Field or other sporting events with the Center for Independent Futures community.

Sandra, who is known for her sense of humor, says that attending activities can help individuals build their confidence in social situations. “The activities provide learning tools for how to communicate with people,” she explains.

One activity in particular that promotes communication is the HeARTwords writing workshop. HeARTwords writers meet biweekly to respond to and discuss a variety of prompts, forming a welcoming and supportive community perfect for fostering creativity. “You get to express yourself, be yourself, and have fun with people who share the same interests,” Sandra says.

On #GivingTuesday, December 1, you can join Center for Independent Futures to support individuals like Sandra and their opportunities for self-expression and friendship. The Activities Program depends on your support.
